The genesis of the climatology in brazil: the awakening of a science

Abstract

This article intends to contribute for the understanding the history of Climatology in Brazil, starting from the first papers that treated of climate and weather in our country. In this sense, it was rescued Frederico Draenert, Henrique Morize, Carlos Delgado de Carvalho, Afranio Peixoto, Joaquim de Sampaio Ferraz and Belfort de Mattos contribuitions, pioneers in the atmospheric studies in a time in that there was a complementarity among meteorologists, polytechnics and geographers. The main objective of this text is the one of analyzing the conditions through which climatology has began a science in Brazil. Key-words: climatology; history of climatology; geographic evolution though; Brazil.
