The big retail company and their locations strategies in São Paulo Metropolitan Area
Abstract
Some researchers are using the concept of “Global Cities” to name the metropolitan areas that comand the global economy. These behave like points of control, linking the national territory and the world, being vectors for the difusion of economical and social innovations. Sao Paulo has a great importance for the Brazilian economy, and this can be viewed in different economic sectors. For instance the city hosts the central offices of the country´s largest retail companies, as well as hypercentres. This article intends to analyse the location strategies of the six major retail companies in São Paulo, and how they relate to their consummer market and to each other. The selected retail companies for the purpose of this study are: Extra, Carrefour, Wal Mart, Sonda and D’avó. Key Words: São Paulo; Retail Trade; Hypermarket; Metropolis.Downloads
