Abstract
This text aims to analyze the way the press of Federal District of Brazil notices information related to the climate, weather and its pattern during the dry period. Editions of two daily newspapers, from 1997 to 2004, were analyzed whenever there were subjects regarding dry-period climate and weather. We evaluated conceptual aspects of the transmission of the news. The results demonstrated that the press has not been always positive, mainly because of the misinformation in the concepts linked to climate and weather. It is very important to solve this problem since the press plays an important role in the formation of the public opinion, mainly of students, because it makes possible historical fact findings, which can be related to meteorological data and Civil Defense and Firemen´s registers, configuring important source of information that can be used for the understanding of the climate as a geographic phenomenon.
