Abstract

Making analysis of cities in Brazil results in getting involved into sceneries marked by contradictions, sócio-spatial segregation, social inequalities and social-environment degradation: while one part of the population has guaranteed their rights to citizenship, the same benefits are limited to the others. In this way, the current wok focuses its objective on verifying the quality of life of the population in Assis Chateaubriand, a municipality of 33.317 inhabitants, which is situated on the west side of state of Paraná. Starting with some intra-urban territorial cuttings, it was allowed to verify spaces completely distinct through the structure, the analysis and the study of the indicatives – profit, transport and final destiny of urban solid residues, use of water and instruction about reading and writing. The downtown neighborhood that holds infra-structure and public services of a high quality are taken by the population that keeps the best earnings and this makes contrast to the peripheral neighborhood, where the poor people live and the public benefits of the city are limited. These conclusions show the need of actions that could permit to equalize the same rights to everyone in the city and consequently the guarantee of a better quality of life to the population that still keeps being unfamiliar to the practice of citizenship. Key words: Quality of life. Urban space. Assis Chateaubriand/PR.
