METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES FOR LAND USE AND LAND COVER DYNAMICS STUDIES: A LOOK AT THE MOZAMBICAN REALITY

Abstract

This review aims to discuss the framework of the study of land use and land cover dynamics into the widely disseminated methodological approaches, with a look at the Mozambican reality, which differs from others with respect to cultural practices, political, financial and Know how issues around the land use planning. This review discusses about which paths to follow for an effective survey of land use and land cover based on the known methodological approaches in the scientific and academicals environment. Based on the theoretical survey on methodological approaches and issues inherent to the dynamics of land use and land cover, description of the activities involved in the land use and land cover survey, it was possible to establish relationships among them that allow framing each activity to the methodological approach. The research allowed to visualize different methodological possibilities for conducting research on the dynamics of land use and land cover in Mozambique.

Édson Luis BOLFE, Embrapa Informatica

Pesquisador na área Sensoriamento Remoto na Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) desde 2001. Docente permanente e orientador (mestrado e doutorado) do Curso de Pós-Graduação em Geografia do Instituto de Geociências (Unicamp - Brasil) desde 2014. Pesquisador visitante no Center for Global Change and Earth Observations (Michigan State University, USA) em 2015 e no Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (Cirad, França) em 2018/2019. Tem experiência na área de Geociências, atuando em: sensoriamento remoto agrícola, comportamento espectral de vegetação, dinâmica de uso e cobertura das terras, zoneamentos agrícolas e indicações geográficas. Doutor em Geografia pelo Instituto de Geociências da Unicamp (2010); Mestre em Engª Agrícola/Sensoriamento Remoto (2001) e Graduado em Engª. Florestal (1999) pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM). Como gestor na Embrapa foi Chefe de Pesquisa & Desenvolvimento (CNPM - 2010/2014); Presidente do Portfólio de Monitoramento do Uso e Cobertura das Terras no Brasil (PortGeo - 2014/2016) e Coordenador do Sistema de Inteligência Estratégica (Agropensa - 2016/2017). Participa do Grupo de Pesquisas em Métodos Avançados de Análise Geoespacial (Unicamp/Embrapa/CNPq) desde 2014.

Óscar Alexandre FUMO, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane

Possui graduação em Ensino de Português pela Universidade Eduardo Mondlane(2010). Mestre em Liguistica Aplicada pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2019). Tem experiência na área de Letras atuando como professor na Universidade Eduardo Mondlane em Mocambique desde 2011.
