Urban Centrality in lhe State of Bahia: A Comparative study
Abstract
This paper presents initialIy a criticai review of lhe central place theary related to the problems of spatial organization in underdeveloped regions. The main perspective is the integration of the spalial efficiency and the spatial equity concepts. In a secand part this study proposes an analysis of the urban centrality in the State of Bahia, comparing the situation of 1970 with that of 1980 based on the distribution of the tertiary sector. In 1980 the urban centrality in Bahia is more complex as a result of imponant changcs in lhe socia-economic structure of the State and in its relationships with the national economy.
