Abstract

In this text we aimed at to introduce the readers to the study of place, discussing it in face of the current transformations of the contemporary historical period, context in which performs as idea-key of an explanatory system of spaces-times and their interactions. Therefore, we detached at along of the text: the scale role in the geographical studies; the acquaintanceship and the use of place and local concepts; the complementary and contradictory relationship between the place and the world-wide; some contributions of the Geographical literature concerning the place category; and the presentation of a theoretical rehearsal of understanding and enlargement of what idea we make about place.
