THE CITY AND ITS MEMORIES: THE CENTRAL SQUARE OF PIRASSUNUNGA, SP

Abstract

This article researched the central public square of the city of Pirassununga, located in the interior of the state of São Paulo (Brazil), based on the memories-memories of the elders. The qualitative methodology was based, mainly, on the collection of primary data through interviews with the elders residing in the city seeking memories-souvenirs, to retell the history of the central square from the point of view of the inhabitants themselves who have more experience. The analysis of these data was thematic content present in the narratives in the light of cultural humanist geography. As a result, it was noted the importance and affection attributed to the square by the elders, contributing as an important historical record, and as a basis for the elaboration of public policies that preserve and value public squares.

Luciene Cristina Risso é bacharela e licenciada em Geografia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), campus de Rio Claro (1998). Mestre em Conservação e manejo de recursos pelo Centro de Estudos Ambientais (CEA, 2001) e Doutora em Geografia pela UNESP, Rio Claro (2005). Realizou pós Doutorado no exterior junto a Universidade de Sevilla (Espanha, 7 meses em 2017) no tema de Paisagem e Patrimônio. É professora Assistente Doutor (MS3.2) da UNESP, campus de Ourinhos (SP) e credenciada no Programa de Pós Graduação da UNESP, campus de Rio Claro.
