Abstract

The coastal strip of northeastern Brazil has been the subject of recurring research in the field of morphotectonics, some of which are specifically focused on the Discovery Coast (BA). The present study has its spatiality posted in the southern part of the mentioned coastal extension, taking on the objective of interpreting and discussing elements concerning the current tectonic control from the interpretation of drainage patterns in line with structural lineaments and field evidence. More specifically, it aims to make considerations between the regional morphotectonic framework and the risks of cliffs collapsing. A domain of the parallel drainage pattern in expressive control was found, spread along two morphotectonic blocks, differentiated by the predominance of the drainage in the SE and NE direction in each block. The results also indicated a close relationship between the morphotectonic framework and cliff dynamics. Overall, the results positively corroborate the pre-existing studies, contributing to knowledge expansion about regional tectonic-structural controls and bringing to light additional evidence on the subject.
