The Summer Vacation and Sun and Sea Tourism are responsible for landscape changes in the Brazilian coastal zone and are urban sprawl drivers. This paper aims to assess the urban sprawl due to the process of Summer Vacation and Sun and Sea Tourism, period between 1984 and 2021, in the Atalaia island, located in the coastal municipality of Salinópolis, Pará state, Brazil. The study was performed through interpretation of temporal thematic maps of urban sprawl which were made from visual interpretation of Landsat 5 and Sentinel-2 satellites images in a Geographic Information System (GIS). The urban areas were identified and mapped through recognition of well-defined streets and blocks and exposed soil areas. Results showed radical changes in the island’s landscapes, driven to urban sprawl resulting from installation of establishments, second homes and support infrastructures for the Summer Vacation and Sun and Sea Tourism, situated predominantly close to the beaches. Howerver, these impacts were limited inside the island. Moreover, this paper also highlighted spatially the initial formation and consolidation of urban sprawl next to island’s beaches.
