Abstract

Unlike the rest of the national territory, Piauí was colonized from the interior, this fact does not take away the importance of its coastal zone, which for historical reasons is the smallest in Brazil. In this one, the municipalities of Parnaíba and Ilha Grande stand out, which have high coastal dynamics that influence the processes of erosion and sediment deposition. In this context, the general objective of this research was to analyze the erosive and sedimentation processes of the coastal dynamics between the Parnaíba and Igaraçu rivers, caused by natural and anthropogenic factors, in recent years. The methodology of the research was based on a theoretical survey on the processes of erosion and sediment deposition in the coastal zone. Regarding data collection, the C.A.S.S.I.E platform was used, which has integration with Google Earth Engine, in which data provided by the Landsat mission for the years 2015 to 2021 were downloaded. In summary, the coast of Piauí undergoes processes of erosion and sediment deposition, with all these processes being more intense in the western sector, as it has a greater amount of sediment deposition and erosion areas, while the eastern sector has a greater number of stable areas.
