Intra and inter-state migratory movements and the urban network of Roraima State
Abstract
Located within the Rio Branco basin, Roraima State remained isolated from the rest of Brazil for centuries. Recently, more perennial links were established, unleashing a demographic boom. Within this context, Boa Vista city performs a dual role: externally, it represents the focal point of inter-state immigration; internally, it performs a migrant redistribution function, presenting negative net-migration flows with the remaining municípios of the State. This study summarizes the historical demographic occupation of Roraima, exploring the formation and workings of its urban network and its relation with intra and inter-migration flows from the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s. Key words: Urban network. Migration. Roraima – Brazil.Downloads
