Abstract

With humanism and ex-sistence as starting points, in the Heideggerian tradition, searching for an autenthic humanism that re-inserts being in its proper place, we seek a meaning for Humanism in Geography, remembering the reasons that influenced that movement and its consequences for Science in general, and for Geography in particular. The argument is that Humanism should transcend the theoretical-metodologhical tendencies of geographical science, as a value to be incorporated in scientific practice and progress. Thus, as a Phoenix that is always reborn, Humanism in Geography at the beginning of the 21st century may contribute not only to the humanization of science, but also to the extension of the phenomena and the relationships studied by geographical science. Key words: Humanism in Geography; Values in Geography; Humanist Geography; Cultural Geography; Epistemology of Geography.
