Reviving GRUEMA: from the writers’ memories to the production of a history

Abstract

Before commenting on how some Cultural History theorists, namely Marc Bloch, Jacques Le Goff, Michel de Carteur and Roger Chartier, deal with the relation between memory and history, this text comments on the tensions which were noticed when we compare the statements of the authors who published two collections of didactic books in Brazilfrom 1967 to 1980: Curso Moderno de Matemática para Escola Elementar e Curso Moderno de Matemática para a Escola de 1º Grau (GRUEMA). Their divergent opinions justify the need for enlarging on the sources which were used throughout the research, as well as how careful historians must be when they work with orality and with the resources of the new technologies.
