Abstract

This article aims at problematizing the statistical knowledge and its inclusion in the curriculum in what has been known as information treatment, which constitutes a field of concern and attention in Statistical Education at different teaching levels. By using the Foucauldian concept of governmentality, the discussion has caused us to suggest a political look at Statistics as a domain of scientific knowledge that turns its attention to the behavior and government of populations. The discussion has also made us think about this inclusion in the curriculum according to the National Guidelines for Elementary Education as a knowledge domain directed towards the government of the individuals themselves. In this context, we understand that both the statistical knowledge and information treatment have become technologies to guide conducts in the context of contemporary governmental rationality.
