Abstract

The goal of this work is to show the main aspects of regressive erosion in the hydrographic basin that supplies the dam public Namorado, in São João do Cariri-PB. This article deals with the dynamic between morfogenesis and pedogenesis from the existing interaction between morfogenetics powers and the landscape. Therefore, the erosion becomes a quantifiable indicator, because in a hydrographic basin it is clearly indicated the lose of material caused by the mechanic of pluvial and fluvial processes. Based on the digital model of elevation, and on the geoprocessing of landscape data, it became clear that there is regressive erosion in the canals resulting from the high intensity rainfalls and the lack of vegetation coverage. Canals in areas with vegetation coverage show intense receding with intensification in some specific seasons because of rainfall, that shows the vulnerability of semi-arid environment. It is concluded that the periods of relative stability do not supply the system with pedogenesis enough to maintain the balance between erosion and soil formation.
