Classes Especiais para Deficientes Mentais na Representação de Professores
Keywords:

This study aimed to describe and analyse the social representation of public school teachers of special classes for students with mild mental retardation in Fortaleza-CE. The social representations of the teachers of special classes here described and analysed are relative to the characteristics, to the students’ placement process, to the objectives and to the discriminative condition associated to such classes. A sample of 18 teachers was interviewed. Themes, sub-themes and categories of analysis were extracted from the interviews. Initially the results were quantified and later an analysis of the qualitative aspects was developed. The teachers’ representations show that they describe their students by emphasising the negative aspects related to behaviour and learning capacity. They attribute to the school failure the students’ placement in the special classes. They also blame the students for such failure.Downloads
