POST-MODERN METROPOLIS AS THE CENTER OF CONSUMPTION: NOTES ON SÃO PAULO (BRAZIL) AND LISBON (PORTUGAL)

Abstract

This article discusses the changes in the relations of trade and consumption in the metropolis of São Paulo and Lisbon and values the study of Portuguese Geographers in this topic. The trades that occur in the local neighborhoods, in metropolis, shopping-centers, outlets, fast food industry, flea markets, hypermarkets, e-commerce, among other ways, reveal strategies and formats that represent the level of maturity of the business activities worldwide. The metropolis can be considered the center of the consumption, as it offers the best opportunities to adapt to these forms of business. Keywords: trade, consumption, metropolis, São Paulo, Lisbon.
