Abstract

A little arm of the Goniasteridae (Echinodermata:Asteroidea) tentatively attributed to the genus Crateraster Spencer, represents the first fossils record of the family in Brazil. It was collected from Turonian carbonate sediments of the Potiguar Basin, State of Rio Grande do Norte. This sea star, which is different of the most recent Goniasteridae found in depth or cold waters, probably lived on shallow environment, with warm waters.
