Abstract

This research was carried out in the city of Rondonópolis, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, to assess the vulnerability to contamination of the Furnas aquifer, using the SI – Susceptibility Index method. The SI generated vulnerability negligible, low, moderate, and high. These vulnerabilities are consistent with the hydrogeological characteristics of the aquifer and the types of uses and occupation. This performance of the SI is related to its characteristics and the adjustments made ​​to the study area. These results can be used to prepare the management plan for this aquifer, to establish protection area well and for deploying network wells of monitoring water quality.
