Abstract
The Enganado River sub-basin, which is part of the Guaporé River basin, located in southestern State of Rondônia, has a system of three small and isolated hydro-electric stations of significant importance for the development of the region. An analysis of the vulnerability to erosion of the sub-basin was carried out using geo-processing techniques, and provided information of the limits of its use, without compromising water resources currently used for electric power generation. Mitigating measures are suggested with reference to portions of the basin that are susceptible to soil erosion (5,06% of the total sub-basin area), moderately stable (44%) and with medium susceptibility (44,1%), as well as for the protection of river sources and neighborhoods, reforestation and implantation of environmental programs, in order to allow the rural population to continue their farming and cattle raising activities in a sustainable way, and without prejudice to the hydro-electric power potenciality of the Enganado River sub-basin.
