Abstract

The use of satellite images as an environmental monitoring tool has many applications in different areas. However, a poorly explored area is the water resources monitoring due to the lack of parameters that correlate water quality and pixels values on the images. The objective of this research is to evaluate the use of LandSat 8 and Sentinel 2 images in the monitoring of Capim Branco Complex supply reservoirs in Uberlândia, MG. The spectral response changes in relation to turbidity and total solids were analyzed. The Sentinel 2 satellite MSI sensor images showed spectral precision compatible withLandSat 8, however, when all visible and near infrared spectrum bands were analyzed, it was verified that the LandSat 8 images have a greater ability to differentiate suspended elements in water. The results allowed establishing a correlation equation between the turbidity and the images bands for each reservoir.
