Abstract
The issues related to the final disposition of the solid residues generated by the ceramic industries of Porto Ferreira, State of São Paulo, have been growing and worsened to the point of representing, now, one of the most preoccupying problems of that municipality. Most of the residues, besides not receiving any kind of treatment, have a final destination harmful for the environment areas known as lixões (landfills). The solution proposed for such a problem was sanitary embankments. The present paper describes the use of a methodology of specific geotechnical mapping for the selection of sites for residues disposition, employing techniques of geoprocessing in the analysis of environmental attributes established from pre-existing geotechnical data. As result, a specific zoning chart for selection of areas to dispose industrial ceramic solid residues was obtained, that may subside the municipal planning, once the results can be used as an instrument of support in the execution of enterprises that will modify the use of the soil of that municipal district. Through the zoning chart it is demonstrated, in a practical and clear manner, that only 9.6% of the area of this municipal district is considered favorable, from a geotechnical point of view. Insofar as the real choice, a second phase of study is necessary, searching for more refinement related to the physical aspect of the area of final disposition.
