Abstract

The Bahia West Region has undergone strong changes in the environmental scenario since the 1980s due to the expansion of agribusiness. In this sense, it is important to monitor the areas exploration in order to reliably monitor and manage the hydrographic basins existing on the site. For that, geotechnology tools were used in order to analyze the spatial and temporal dynamics of vegetation in the Rio Branco Basin - BA. Spatialization and quantification of the native vegetation of the basin was carried out, identifying the changes that occurred in the years 1994, 2007 and 2020. The NDVI obtained through the processing of satellite images was used. The results indicate that there was a decrease in native vegetation and an increase in the area of cultivation and pasture, observed by the reduction of the Moderately High and High classes and the growth of the Very Low, Low and Moderately Low classes. Therefore, with the loss of native vegetation, the soil has become more exposed and susceptible to degradation.
