Abstract

The article investigates the power of the wind during the last glacial in the Brazilian South Coast from the analysis of the size of aeolic grains of sandy ramp. It was defined an index of wind power transportation through the time and the correlation of this index with the variations of paleotemperature of the Southern Atlantic. The results point out a tendency of the raise of the values of the index wind power in thick fractions, as very thick sand and granules, towards the major last glacial. This tendency shows negative statistic correlation with the decrease of global paleotemperature. We can conclude that the south quadrant was responsible for the transportation of the sand to the sandy ramp and that in the last glacial the wind showed bigger power of transportation of grain than the current interglacial. It suggests a strengthening of the Polar Fronts and the dislocation of the Polar Anticyclone more to the north. Keywords: Proxy data, sand ramp, wind power, Late Quaternary.
