Abstract

Most Martian meteorites are considered igneous rocks originating from basaltic and ultramafic materials from Mars. Currently, meteorites from Mars are divided into 4 groups (Shergottito, Nakhlito, Chassignito and Orthopyroxene) according to their structure and chemical composition. This is important, since the grouping of these materials makes it easier to search for the possible environment from which they originated, or in other words, it would be like knowing the location of the "outcrop" and its "regional context" for geology. Thus, the main objective here is to develop a comprehensive and synthesized review of SNC meteorites. One of the justifications is that in 2021, more precisely in February, perseverance will arrive on Mars, which will explore a deep 250 m paleolago about 3.9 billion to 3.5 billion years ago. Therefore, this may be an opportune time to gather content in Portuguese and critically evaluate what we know and what we still need to learn about Mars. Another justification is that although there is a substantial amount of articles in English on CNS meteorites, many of them are outdated and the Portuguese literature on CNS is scarce, practically nonexistent. Thus, it is hoped that this article can be used as a reference for undergraduate and graduate students, providing relevant information for the development and learning of meteorology, more specifically from the SNC, as well as making the dissemination of its concepts for future works of scientific initiation, monographs, dissertations or even theses.
