In sport, the motivational factors are one of the main factors that drive the subject to action.. Thus, this study aimed to cover the identification of reasons which lead teenagers to sport. Such research is characterized as cross retro-analytical. The sample was composed by 87 athletes (72 boys and 15 girls) to 12,14 (± 1,44) years of age and length of practice of 3,65 (± 2,19) years, players of basketball, soccer, gymnastics rhythmic sport, judo, swimming and volleyball. The instrument was used to evaluate the Inventory of Motivation to Practice Sports, Gaya and Cardoso (1998), composed by 19 objective questions, divided into 3 categories: sports competence, health and friendship/leisure. In statistical analysis, there were the frequency and percentage of responses. The results indicated that factors associated with health were considered most important for most athletes. In contrast, variables like "to find the friends" and "to lose weight" had minor.Downloads
