Abstract

This paper presents the right all citizens have to dance. It focus on the official orientations which deals with dance as a legitimate content at school briefly discussing the difficulty to implement this content. Among various dance manifestations we highlight Ballroom Dance, its characteristics and benefits. We trace the historical path of Ballroom Dance in Brazil at colleges.

Catia Mary Volp, Departamento de Educação Física, IB/UNESP, Rio Claro, SP

Possui graduação em Licenciatura em Educação Física pela Universidade de São Paulo (1974), mestrado em Educação Física - The University Of Iowa (1981) e doutorado em Psicologia Escolar pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994). Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. Tem experiência na área de Educação Física, com ênfase em Educação Física, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: dança, estados de ânimo, educação física, música e dança de salão.
