Cerebral stimulation by photo and auditif syntetization associated to imagery and muscle therapy: reducing pain in women with fibromyalgia

Evidence shows brain stimulation via cortical synthesis, combined with imagery, as being an effective procedure for fibromyalgia treatment. The objective was to combine the above techniques, with the muscle massage therapy, aiming to implement such treatment. Fifteen women with fibromyalgia, 40 to 55 years, divided into three groups. Brain stimulation, imagery and muscle massage therapy (EC + M), imagery and muscle massage therapy (MT), and the third was the control group (GC), which received a traditional treatment. Instruments were The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), The General Health Questionnaire (SF-36) and The Analogical Numerical Pain Scale (ANPS), measuring initial and post-intervention pain levels. Results associated with ANPS revealed significant effects on minimizing pain in both groups (both p < 0.05). Among them was higher for the EC+M group (p < 0.05). Effects were also significant in relation to FIQ and SF-36, but only for the EC+M group (both p < 0.05). Pain level was unchanged for the CG. Intervention effects extended to quality of life items (FIQ).Downloads
