This study aims to reveal the teaching practices in the teaching-learning of the game of chess in public schools in the city of Montes Claros (MG). We chose to use the methodological procedures of qualitative and quantitative research through the use of instruments: questionnaire, semi-structured interview and participant observation. Data collection was divided into two stages, being the first one, the exploratory study in five schools, in order to obtain criterion that could lead to a detailed study in only one school, through a case study. It was realized a situational diagnosis, with the application of a questionnaire to 20 students of 6º and 7º years of basic education of each one of these schools (survey), totalizing 100 students, chosen at random. The analysis was made using the statistical program SPSS (version 13.5). Regarding the teaching of chess in some schools investigated, the didactic approach is confused with a "practice by practice” seeing the game of chess as a game by the game, and the teaching of chess based only on technical aspects without adequate monitoring teaching, without teachers committed and involved with the teaching and with a physical structure little suitable for the development of multiple dimensions and pedagogical potential of the game of chess. It was identified also in the locus of the case study, pedagogical actions of this game based on an active and dynamic process capable of causing changes in the establishment of cooperative strategies, dialogical, interactive and, therefore, that transforms, through a pedagogical praxis organized, intentional, with dedication and commitment, which reinforces the positive effects that there were glimpsed, resulting in an education through (and by) the game of chess. The research had as assertive that through of a performance didactic pedagogical compromised you can take to schools new concepts of human relations, redeeming values through the game of chess that gives opportunity to improve the cognitive, affective and social aspects, important principles in the search for a quality education. The reflections presented here emphasize the importance of this game, when inserted in the educational context, be understood by a complexity of the pedagogical practice of the elements that permeate it. Only thus will be able to contribute to training students in its totality.Downloads
