Young Sportmen: professionalization in soccer and formation in school

Abstract

The goals of the study were: to verify how young soccer players manage to conciliate their training routines with school; and how the student-athletes perceive the importance of school in the search for a future occupation. For this analysis, we made 12 interviews half-structuralized with young players – from 15 to 20 years – of four soccer teams from Rio de Janeiro. We observed that these athletes find distinct strategies of conciliation between soccer and school routines, mediated by mechanisms of loosening adopted by the educational establishments/teachers, with the consent of the parents. We concluded that the purpose of this agreement is the permanence of the athlete in the school. Although we have reflected on the mechanisms of loosening adopted by teachers and principals, we cannot infer the impact caused by such mechanisms in the institutionalized education of these young athletes of soccer.

Possui graduação em Licenciatura em Educação Física pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2003). Mestre em Educação Física pela Universidade Gama Filho (2005-2007) com bolsa do CNPq. Doutorando do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da UFRJ na linha de pesquisa Política e Instituições Educacionais. Professor concursado do Colégio de Aplicação da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (CAp-UFRJ) e do curso de Pós-Graduação Latu-Sensu CESPEB (FE - CAp UFRJ). Bolsista do Ministério da Educação (MEC) no projeto Portal do Professor (2009-2011). Integra os grupos de pesquisa cadastrados no CNPq "Esporte e Cultura" e "Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas Educação e Sociedade Contemporânea". Secretário da Comissão Provisória do Colégio Brasileiro de Ciências do Esporte (Secretaria do Estado do Rio de Janeiro). O atual projeto de pesquisa analisa a relação entre a formação profissional no campo esportivo e a escolarização de jovens no Brasil. Tem experiência na área de Educação Física atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: educação física escolar; esporte e a construção de identidades; formação esportiva de jovens atletas.

Doutor em Educação Física pela Universidade Gama Filho (1998). Realizou estágio de Pós-doutorado na Universidade do Porto-FADE-UP (2007-08). Seu interesse e trajetória de investigação se baseiam nos estudos culturais/pedagógicos da escola, do esporte, da educação física e das atividades físicas em geral. Lecionou na educação básica e atualmente atua na universidade em nível de Graduação e Pós-graduação.Orientou e orienta trabalhos de conclusão de curso, iniciação científica, dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado, também é autor de livros, capítulos de livros e artigos vinculados aos seus temas de investigação vinculados a Educação, a Educação Física e a sociologia do esporte.
