The Influences of the physical activity practice on aging: A comparative study on the autonomy level for performance on DLAs and IADLs between the physically active and sedentary elderly

The practice of regular physical activity on aging has been revealed as a determining factor with regarding the maintenance of quality of life and well being on the elderly. This study had the purpose to verify the influence of the regular practice of physical activities on the levels of autonomy for performance in ADLs (activities of daily living) and IADLs (instrumental activities of daily living) on the elderly. This research was developed comparing the results in the Katz (1963) and Lawton (1969) scales, by a group of 24 elderly practitioners of physical activities and a group of 24 sedentary elderly. The results of the study indicated that the elderly who practiced physical activity regularly maintained good levels of autonomy for the performance of their daily life activities while the sedentary elderly people had greater difficulty and less autonomy.Downloads
