Abstract

Although we have a consolidated structure of undergraduation courses, the work field in Physical Education, still today, hires people without academic accreditation. The objective of this paper is to discuss the professional intervention in Physical Education, starting from the characterization of the concept of profession presented by Friedson (1998) and relate it to the professional knowledge and accreditation of the profession, considering the expertise, the accreditation and the autonomy as common denominators to any profession. We observe that Physical Education lacks scientific knowledge about professional intervension, that professional accreditation is a recent fact and professionals still aren't the main formers of opinion in the field.
