Today, cancer is the second major cause of mortality in our country, in the USA and in Europe. Although genetic factors play an important role, sedentary and irregular life style contribute to the increasing incidence of the disease. In the present study, we reviewed the literature on the exercise recommendation in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients, including nutritional and weight control aspects. There are strong evidences of the contribution of physical activity in different phases of the disease and its treatment. During the diagnosis and pre-treatment period, the patient finds in the physical condition the support to face therapy. During rehabilitation, physical activity improves physical capacities, allowing a better reestablishment of daily activity routine. However, during the treatment, physical activity seems to play a more important role, attenuating chronic fatigue and caquexy , improving metabolic and energetic efficiency and impairing carcinogenic action.Downloads
