The text exposes clippings of research on approximations with conceptual categories by Antonio Gramsci and contributions to Environmental Education (EE) worked on the management of Protected Areas (PA). It was asked: how to subsidize the EE to strengthen the PA as a teaching-learning space in a critical perspective and interfere on the regulation of territories? Hypothetically, subsidizing EE with Gramscian categories would qualify social participation in the PA Councils for critical apprehension of the socioenvironmental reality, elaboration of counter-hegemonic narrative and impact on public policies. Methodologically, there was the study of conceptual categoriesof the work of the aforementioned autor; bibliographic review on the power of EE to contribute to the attribution of meanings to PA and Councils; ex post facto research on EE experience in PA management. Contributions based on inspiration in Gramscian thinking to the EE and its contributions to the development of counter-hegemonic narratives from the Councils were identified, which also express challenges within the scope of the Integral State.
