Abstract

In the face of environmental problems critical environmental education should enable the revision of the human-nature relationship patterns underlying them. The photograph could serve as a possibility for this work, allowing to work with the dimensions of knowledge, values and political participation aimed at this objective. Thus, considering a qualitative documentary study, we analyzed photographs involving the human-nature relationship present in the Cadernos de Ciências offered to state schools by the São Paulo do Escola program in 2018. We have identified photos in the utilitarian, sustainable and restorative conception, but in this text we will only address the utilitarian, that prevailed in the material. The results indicated that if there was an interest in critically addressing the environmental issue, the photos could favor a more adequate work, providing a broader reflection on the issue and a more appropriate understanding of the relationship between human being and nature.
